GRADUATE STUDENT EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
The Center for Analysis and Prediction of Storms (CAPS) seeks to hire a part-time (.50 FTE) graduate research assistant in Computer Science or related field for the Fall Semester, 2013. This student will work on the development of a flexible and efficient web site and backend database structure for displaying high-resolution weather model output.
Recommended qualifications include experience in the following:
- Design experience for a large website
- Cosmetic design (Use of Photoshop or related software)
- Database software (e.g., PostgreSQL, mysql, sqlite3)
- Server-side scripting (php5 and related software)
- html 5 code development
- Apache software configuration
Additional efficiency in Perl and/or Python is strongly recommended.
Designated as one of six University Strategic Organizations (USOs), CAPS is a team of over 50 highly motivated scientists and students devoted to improving high-resolution weather model data assimilation and numerical weather prediction. The GRA will gain valuable experience in the weather community working with large volume model output, databases, and web design. Completion of this project may lead to additional opportunities.
